A GRID SUPREME

architectural league new york / museum of the city of new york
extension of new york city's grid
competition
2011

The proposal focuses on reshaping the map of New-York city, by extending its Grid Plan. A belt of new Plots is created, a ring of new potential is made available. While the road layout is prolonged as it is, we propose to invert the use of blocks, plots and streets. As the streets and avenues are better dimensioned for constructions than the plots, all buildings should be planned according to the Grid’s street plan, while the plots should be left un-built in order to serve as open / public spaces.

Thus new generic building archetypes are made available for Manhattan and its residents.

The project proposes a dwell-able De-Central Park, enabling the city to cope with vital issues such as water-cycle management and social stability.
